Glacier View Secondary Centre - is a school that provides alternate educational opportunities and unique programming for School District #71 students in grades 8-12. The school services students who have been out of the educaiton system for a period of time, have fallen behind their peers or have experienced difficulty with a larger school environment. As such we teach, support and guide some of the most At Risk students in the Comox Valley.
Glacier View houses 4 distinct alternate education programs. Each classroom has an open-learning environment with vaulted ceilings, bright windows in modern, computer equipped classrooms. Each program also has access to a well equipped kitchen area, gymnasium, student lounge, and games room. Glacier View has a dedicated staff of 17 that includes:
- Educational Assistants
- Home/School Support Worker
- Administrative Assistant
- Work Experience Coordinator
- Youth & Family Program Worker
- In addition to our internal staff, Glacier View receives tremendous support from outside agencies such as MCFD (Ministry of Child and Family Development), John Howard Society, RCMP and VIHA (Vancouver Island Health Authority).
The majority of academic instruction at Glacier View focuses on the core academics of Math, English, Science and Social Studies.
