Students who will be in grades 9 - 12 next year that are wanting to experience another culture.  Students will host an Italian student at the end of September 2018 for a minimum of 10 days and then will travel to Italy during Spring Break of 2019 and be hosted by that student's family while staying in Verbania.

A maximum of 30 students will get to go on this trip and we are looking to have participants finalized by the beginning of May this year.

Who are the sponsor teachers?
Ms. Darlington, Learning Support teacher at Highland, and Ms. Hood-Tanner, Highland Art teacher, are the two sponsor teachers for this exchange. Students can ask them any questions about the exchange and they will do her best to answer them, or find the answers to them.

While the Italian students are in the Comox Valley, it is expected that the homestay family will welcome them in and give them local experiences (Tofino, Qualicum/Parksville, Mt Washington Chair, etc).  Italian students will stay with families each night while they are here.  During the school week while the Isfeld students are in school, the Italian students will participate is day excertions that may include (Elk Falls, Mt Washington hike, Victoria overnight trip, Cathedral Grove, Deep bay marine station, Komox Band/Big House, etc).

Families who are hosting an Italian student as part of this exchange will need to fill out a Homestay Application.

Plans while in Italy.....
We are planning on flying into Rome and spending 2 full days exploring the city together before taking the train north to Verbania. While in Verbania students will spend a day or so at the school with their host student and then experience several day trips as well as an overnight trip to Venice. Some potential day trips include a trip into Switzerland and visiting the city of Turin. Many of these day activities will be planned in the upcoming months so we will let you know when we have a solid itinerary.

Cost: $3300-$3500
This is an estimated cost for the trip. It could be a little less but we do not know yet as we are still in the early stages of planning. Please remember that the cost of all flights, hotels and experiences in Rome, Florence and Venice, as well as all day trips taken with the Italian students are included in this cost. Some additional costs for meals and optional activities may be incurred by the students.

Spending money will also be needed.  We will be visiting many amazing places, including the market place in Verbania, where Italian sodas, sorbets, expresso coffee and wonderful food will be waiting for us! Plus I am sure we will all be bringing souveniers home for family and friends.

Deposit - a deposit will be needed to secure your spot on the trip. We are looking at a deposit of $1000 that will be required by the end of this May.

Passports and documentation.....yes you need this
You will need a passport that will not expire within six (6) months of the trip.

You will also fill in detailed permission slips, a parent consent form which will need to be notarized, a medical form and a standard letter giving Ms. Darlington and Ms. Hood-Tanner permission to take you on international travel.

If your parents are divorced / separated you must make sure BOTH sets of parents fill out all of these documents.
