Parents are invited to Highland Secondary on Wed., May 4th (5:30 pm – 8:30 pm) to learn more about helping kids with high anxiety, and to meet the local service providers who can support them. Parents with older kids (approx grade 5 and up) are encouraged to bring their kids with them so they can attend the presentation for youth. "REST IN A RESTLESS WORLD: HELPING A CHILD WITH ANXIETY", will be presented by Tamara Strijack (R.C.C.) of the Neufeld Institute. Tamara is a Registered Clinical Counselor and a mother of two adolescent girls. She also works as a parent and teacher consultant. The presentation for older kids/youth (approx grade 5 and up) "YOUTH SUPPORTING YOUTH”, is an interactive conversation about the basics of mental health. Youth and children will come away with ideas to improve mental health and how to bring more awareness and understanding. Presenters: Peer Support youth - C.V. Child Youth Mental Health Substance Use Collaborative & Laura McLaren – Substance Use Indicated Prevention and Early Intervention Coordinator, John Howard Society. Counsellors will be at this presentation to provide support to all who attend. This presentation happens at the same time as the anxiety presentation.
LOCAL AGENCIES WILL BE PRESENT to speak with parents and to inform you about their services. Bring your questions for them, and come early so you have time to meet them before the presentations begin. Doors open at 5:30 and presentations start at 6:45.
